Always scheduled during an "Open Barn"

So you think you might want to raise alpacas….or maybe something about alpacas has peaked your interest and you'd like to learn more. "Alpacas 101" may be just the class for you. This one day seminar provides an overview of what is involved with raising alpacas and keeping it an enjoyable endeavor. The day will start out with coffee, rolls and discussion about what raising alpacas is all about. By the end of the day you'll be sitting among the alpacas sipping on a cocktail or beverage contemplating the day's agenda and looking at the animals with a much great amount of understanding and appreciation. Stargazer "Ranch-Hand" Day

Open to City Slickers Year-Round

Not sure what to do with your alpacas once you get them? Then it is time to cowboy-up or as they'd say somewhere "Arriba-Alpaqueros"! Ranch-Hand Day is a hands-on workshop designed to help you learn and develop skills useful to maintain your herd. We will share our protocols and resources we've developed to help you prepare for birthing, breeding, cria care and common treatments. Experience a day as an "Alpaqueros". Seminars

Weekend On The Ranch

This 2 day seminar explores all the aspects of the alpaca industry. Course outline is a combination of presentations, interactive discussion and hands-on learning. By the end of the weekend you will have enough information to help set goals and complete a business plan. All materials, beverages, snacks and lunch will be provided.

Alpacas 101

This class provides an introduction to what is involved in alpaca ranching a viable business.

"Ranch-Hand" Day

This is a hands-on introduction to alpaca husbandry and herd management. Participants will be asked to help with as many routine maintenance items as we can schedule. We'll share our protocols and resources for events such as birthing and breeding, cria care and common treatments. By appointment only.

Open Barn

This is just like an "Open House" except it is held in the barn so we don't have to clean the house. Entertainment provided by the alpacas. Hosts will answer questions and assist with animal interactions if needed. Some areas are relatively assessable to wheelchairs.

Fiber Classes

Fiber Dyeing
June 18, 2011

Several dyeing techniques will be taught to make beautiful dyed raw alpaca fiber, yarns and rovings. Most of the dyed fiber will be used during upcoming fiber classes, but you will be able to take plenty of samples from the various techniques you learned/tried in class. Cost $75 per person.

Beginning Spinning
Sept. 10, 2011

This 8 hour class is a primer for spinning natural fiber. Participants will try their hand at on different types of spinning equipment. Yarn made in class is your to take home. Use of equipment, materials, lunch and beverages included.
$89.00 includes carded alpaca roving and a drop spindle to take home.

Braided Rug
Filled

Using braided, felted and stitched together rovings you will take home a cozy rug at the end of the day. Perfect for next to the sink on cold winter days! Cost $65 per person.
